My goal as a mentor is to train scientists that are excellent experimentalists, innovative, critical thinkers, strong communicators, and have the confidence to pursue challenging questions or experiments. I strive to foster resilience and integrity in my trainees so that they can withstand a long career in science. I see advocating for my trainees a significant part of being a mentor, to help them access career development opportunities and integrate them into the larger scientific community. Lastly, I understand each trainee requires different mentoring approaches and so I endeavor to be adaptable in the way I mentor or be humble enough to recruit additional mentors to meet the needs that I cannot.
